I love this photo, because it reminds me of the joy that Jesus can bring. It reminds me what church planting is really all about: showing people how much Jesus values them. In Bihar, India, we're going to provide access to the gospel. We are going to show people how much Jesus loves them who have never even heard his name. It is going to renew hearts.
There are over 45,000 villages in Bihar, India. Approximately 85% of people in Bihar live in villages. With more than 100 million people living in Bihar, that makes the average population of a village about 1,800 people.
Each church planter Jesus' Economy will fund will bring the gospel to five to seven villages. On average over 10,800 people will have access to the gospel per church planter. We estimate that at least half of these people will directly hear about Jesus, meaning that each church planter will tell 5,400 people about Jesus over the three year period of funding.
The statistics are staggering. But when you take into account past success of Transformation India Movement (Jesus' Economy's partner in Bihar, India) and realize just how dense the population in villages is, the numbers make sense. (In addition, I have seen this at work with my own eyes, so I know it to be true.)
Together, we recently funded a church planter for a year in Bihar, India. And we're really close to funding a second for a year. Collectively, these two church planters will give over 21,000 people access to the gospel. And collectively, their efforts will likely lead to over 10,800 people hearing about Jesus.
Last week, we didn't quite meet our goal to fund the second church planter for a year within seven days, but we got close. We're only $1,066 away! There's no reason to lose hope. We can still make this happen together. I believe we can collectively do this.
I want to see 21,000 people have access to the gospel. I want to see 10,800 people hear about Jesus. Don't you? Let's get that second church planter funded.
