Fair Trade Father's Day Gifts from Haiti

Many dads around the world are dedicated to loving their children while working to make the world a better place. As we celebrate the dads in our lives this Father’s Day, let’s honor them and the impact they’ve made in our lives and around the world.

Many of the fair trade gifts in our Father’s Day collection are from Jubilee, Haiti, an impoverished village just outside Gonaives. There, artisans like Benson Thermidor and Philippe use their skills in business and entrepreneurship to create stable jobs and provide for their families. These artisans craft leather goods to sell locally and internationally, with the help of 2nd Story Goods and Jesus’ Economy.

Fair Trade Products Uplift Community

Benson was binding songbooks, Bibles, and texts for friends when 2nd Story Goods, a local nonprofit, asked him if he would be willing to teach his skills to others in the village who needed work.

Since that time, Benson's leather business has grown exponentially. He has trained other artisans in his community; together they're making fair trade computer cases, totes, briefcases, wallets, and other items. Benson's business now includes 25 men and women and a full-sized workshop. In this impoverished village, where work is often unreliable and low paying, Benson's studio is uplifting the community.

Shopping fair trade is a practical and positive movement for the world. Join us in transforming lives through fair trade, and get something awesome for the dad or grandfather in your life in the process.
