We've successfully drilled seven water wells in Bihar, India and provided clean water to thousands of people. This year, we're hoping to drill two more wells with your support!
Together, we are providing clean water for those who desperately need it.
"The young man grimaced with pain as he walked up to me. He pointed at the location of his kidney, asking for prayer. Dirty water had caused his kidney failure. It was an absurd reality; this problem was easily preventable, if only the rest of the world had cared enough. That's how our clean water initiative began." —John D. Barry, Founder of Jesus' Economy
Water-borne illnesses are a leading cause of death in Bihar, India. Of the 38,000 villages in Bihar, less than half have access to clean water (according to India's Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation 2014 Report). And a staggering number of people dying from water-borne illnesses are children. But we're doing something about it.
A water well has the capacity to provide 2,000 people with access to clean water and prevent water-borne illnesses. Jesus’ Economy has already funded one water well per area that our sponsored church planters are serving in; and for several of the areas, we've drilled two wells—totaling seven wells. These seven wells were drilled in extremely impoverished regions, where people desperately needed access to clean water. These wells are part of the Renew Bihar, India project.
The original four Jesus' Economy sponsored water wells are providing 7,100 people with access to clean water, which means that $0.56 provides someone with access to clean water. These wells cost $1,000 each or $9,000 total, hence the goal on this page.
Every last dollar of your donations went to covering the cost of installing and maintaining water wells in Bihar.
Thanks to the movement of Jesus' Economy, the lives of the impoverished are being renewed with clean water. The stories of renewal are incredible. A remote, impoverished fishing village now has access to clean water. A water feud is resolved, providing 5,000 with clean water. People viewed as the lowest caste have had their basic needs met. An impoverished group of people in desperate need have been helped. Four villages have been completely transformed.
