Give Vickie Barry a Birthday Gift: Empower Women in India

  • My grandmother, Ma Murphy, who raised me, didn't have much; we often barely got by. But this didn't stop Ma from taking in impoverished women; many of whom were teenaged, pregnant outcasts. Ma didn't just care for ladies' needs, she empowered them -- telling them how much Jesus valued them. And Ma empowered me, a kid whose teenaged mother didn't want her. For my birthday on July 14th, I want to empower women like Ma did.

In Bihar, India, one of the most impoverished places in the world, Jesus' Economy is empowering women. They're teaching women to run their own businesses and to develop products for a U.S. market, to increase their income. This will renew homes, lifting entire families out of poverty. Please donate to this wonderful cause instead of getting me a birthday gift. It's my goal to lift three families out of poverty, which costs $4,905; every last dollar goes directly to Bihar to empower women. Let's empower women like my Ma did.

  • Many women in Bihar, India are yet to be empowered and do not have marketable skills. Transformation India Movement, Jesus’ Economy’s partner, has been helping women to become self-sufficient through Bridge of Hope Tailoring Centers. Jesus' Economy is expanding this program for 40 graduates, teaching them to develop products for a U.S. market and to be even better business leaders. After, they will be eligible for a microloan from to purchase supplies for their expanding businesses. Jesus' Economy then changes the economic paradigm by becoming the guaranteed buyer of the products the women are trained to create. You can learn more about the program here.

  • Jesus' Economy creates jobs and churches in the developing world, as well as meets basic needs—resulting in a new global, spiritual and physical economy for those that need it most. As a a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity, which lives by principles, Jesus' Economy provides an online fair trade store and initiates holistic regional transformation projects.
